The Haval H6C 2.0T Luxury

The SUV segment has changed much over the years from what consumers thought was an all round vehicle that could go anywhere; to now being the Smart Utility Vehicle that oozes luxury sophistication and comfortability. 

Let me give you a quick break down of Havals history. Headquartered in Baoding, Hebei-China, the company is named after the Great Wall Of China and was formed in 1984. This is China’s largest sport utility vehicle and truck producer. It sells passenger cars and trucks under the Great Wall brand and SUVs under the Haval and WEY brands.



I specifically chose the Haval H6C 2.0T Luxury in M/T as I was informed about the little bit of lag in the Auto transmission version. The Fast back H6C competes in the medium-SUV category. 
It’s about the same length and height as a Mazda CX-5 or Kia Sportage, but looks a little more compactly styled in the like of the fellow home brands such as the Hyundai Creta. 

The H6C is bigger than it looks and passenger space is impressive. Rear passengers have good legroom, rear air vents and in the Premium model on test here with full on artificial leather seats.Haval claims luggage capacity of 247 litres and utility space of 1 146 litres.



The H6C has a large motor if you consider the minimalist trend in the market. Havals 2.0-litre turbopetrol engine pushes peak outputs of 140 kW and 310 Nm but doesn't feel forceful. Acceleration has a gradual, linear feel to it and the 2.0 holds 120 kph with relative ease. This far we’ve averaged at least 11.0L/100km which clearly indicates how thirsty the Haval is. Apart from that , the 6-speed manual gearbox is a great match and shifts up and down the box with great comfort.





Ride comfort has improved quite well considering the Chinese brands bad history when it comes to ride quality.

The H6C has a lot to offer in spec- and safety levels at R389 900 and may entice buyers who are looking for something a little bigger than a Renault Captur, Suzuki Vitara or Hyundai Creta. It’s unlikely to pull many buyers from top-selling rivals in the cutthroat family car segment, but we don't believe that'll be the case for much longer.

The old VW Polo models are slowly fading out as Volkswagen stretches its R-Line. It comes with a new engine, a 1.0 TSI with an output of 81 kW and 200 Nm. The Polo 7 GTI 2017 model is one car South Africans will not get over anytime soon. It’s basically the modern BMW 325i.s “Gusheshe” that our fathers screamed at with excitement in the 90’s.

The Polo 7 GTI is a beaut, one for the books to be exact. The paint colour, the LED lights, the rims, its whole look and feel will have its owner with a smirk, especially in traffic. With a four cylinder 1.8-Litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine it kicks out 141 kW of power at between 4 300 and 6 200 rpm from the 6-speed manual transmission. The 7-speed DSG transmission kicks out 5 400 to 6 200 rpm. It should be faster than its Polo 7 Rline sibling. The variations differ due to technical differences in the design of the transmissions. The same applies to the torque values: the DSG delivers a maximum torque of 250 Nm between 1 250 and 5 300 rpm whereas the manual gearbox version delivers 320 Nm between 1 450 and 4 200 rpm. Fortunately, the differences in torque have no effect on the vehicle's performance.
