The Polo 7 GTI 2017 model is one car South Africans will not get over anytime soon. It’s basically the modern BMW 325i.s “Gusheshe” that our fathers screamed at with excitement in the 90’s.

The Polo 7 GTI is a beaut, one for the books to be exact. The paint colour, the LED lights, the rims, its whole look and feel will have its owner with a smirk, especially in traffic. With a four cylinder 1.8-Litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine it kicks out 141 kW of power at between 4 300 and 6 200 rpm from the 6-speed manual transmission. The 7-speed DSG transmission kicks out 5 400 to 6 200 rpm. It should be faster than its Polo 7 Rline sibling.

The variations differ due to technical differences in the design of the transmissions. The same applies to the torque values: the DSG delivers a maximum torque of 250 Nm between 1 250 and 5 300 rpm whereas the manual gearbox version delivers 320 Nm between 1 450 and 4 200 rpm. Fortunately, the differences in torque have no effect on the vehicle's performance.

Volkswagen claims fuel consumption to be at 5.6L/100 km with the 7-speed DSG and 6.0L/100km with the 6-speed manual. The Polo 7 GTI accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 6.7 seconds.
The Polo GTI received a revamp of new bumpers, flared door sills, the GTI logo on the front wing and GTI signature such as the red strips in the radiator grille and headlights. With that in mind Volkswagen put out the Polo GTI with optional LED headlights as well as LED daytime running lights.

The interior features red GTI elements. The leather sports steering wheel, adapted from the Golf GTI, has strikingly different red stitching, as do the gear lever and handbrake lever; the floor mats also feature borders with red beading. The driver and front passenger have heated sports seats. Features such as the instrument cluster with GTI design, black headliner and aluminium-look pedal caps complete the interior atmosphere.

Standard are features such as: Hill Hold assist, XDS+ Transverse Electronic Differential Lock, Driver Alert System, Cruise Control and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.
The offered optional features with the new Polo GTI: LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, Panoramic sunroof, Park Distance Control (front and rear), Climatronic air-conditioner and Rear Assist Camera.

The Volkswagen 1.8 TSI 141 kW Polo GTI DSG is priced at R326 400. The new Polo GTI comes standard with a 3 year/45 000km Service Plan, 3 year/120 000km warranty and a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty. Service interval is 15 000km.

  1. But isn't this a polo MK5 face-lift? Internally known as the 6C?

    1. You're referring to the 6r/6c released in 2009. The facelift for that model was done in 2014.
